Mary G Davenport PhD

Dr. Mary G. Davenport  is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a certified Sex Therapist. She specializes in both individual and couples therapy treating anxiety disorders, depression, relationship issues, body image, issues around life transitions (divorce, death of a loved one, relocation, retirement, health problems), as well as, gay and lesbian issues, and gender identity issues. Trained at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Davenport has been in private practice since 1974 and has extensive experience in her areas of specialization. She now practices in downtown Sarasota Florida.

My Approach

 I begin by listening carefully. My emphasis is on client's

strengths not on pathologizing nor judging. I try to understand

what is and is not working in his/her life.The next step is to

formulate a plan...to determine what needs to be addressed and

how to address it.  Clients strengths are very important in the

assessment and plan.

After many years of experience, I have developed an eclectic

approach that is customized to the needs of the individual client or client couple.

I support couples who want to preserve/enhance their

relationship. I help couples who are ready to separate, do so with

understanding of themselves and in as respectful a manner as 

possible.
